The main town of Extremadura is Caceres. When you arrive either by car or train, you will not notice something particular about the city. The architecture is moderm without any specifity. One of the main street look like Avenida Doctor Soto in Alicante. The city looks busy until around 2 o’clock in the afternoon, then the pause time between 2 and 5 o’clock in the afternoon make the city looks desert with everything closed. I have met such condition in Elche and Plasencia, this is typical from small and midsize town.

During July 2005, the temperature in Caceres was averaging the 40°C , when I visited the city , it was a stellar 43°C . The most interesting part of Caceres is the historic town. Every building there is preserved intact. The historic town is pretty big and it will take around 1 hour to see it all.

If you plan to have a meal at restaurant make sure to take before 2 pm or after 5 pm or you may be left with Burger King and Mc Donald as your only option. (They both have airco. It is good to rest there for a little bit you don’t support the heat during the summer). They are some hotels in Caceres, the Parador being the most popular (C/ Ancha, 6. 10003. Cáceres , Cáceres
Tel. : 00 34 927 21 17 59 - rate:100-120 Euro/night) . Caceres is easily accessible by car, train and bus. The train to Caceres is very slow, either go in Bus or rent a car.
