I thought a 3 days unplanned city trip in Barcelona will be safe and easy, I was a bit wrong since I know little about Barcelona but in the end the trip was very good. The main problem was to find a hotel at a decent price, I arrived late in the night and it was rainy, I had 14 Kg of luggages.

When you leave the airport in train you arrive in the Barcelona train station called Sants. They are many hotels around this train stations mostly four stars. I managed to find a nice three stars Hotel , the NH Numancia (Avenida Numancia, Check Rate). I paid 82 Euro/night (Breakfast include) but then they only had rooms available for two nights.

The main town of Extremadura is Caceres. When you arrive either by car or train, you will not notice something particular about the city. The architecture is moderm without any specifity. One of the main street look like Avenida Doctor Soto in Alicante. The city looks busy until around 2 o’clock in the afternoon, then the pause time between 2 and 5 o’clock in the afternoon make the city looks desert with everything closed. I have met such condition in Elche and Plasencia, this is typical from small and midsize town.

I went to the Día de la Comunidad Valenciana, I tried to take some pictures but it wasn’t easy, it was very crowed.

I spent 3 days in Plasencia a small town in the north of Extremadura. During the summer the region is very dry and hot, I felt it as soon as I went out of the train, 3 hours of train from Madrid to Plasencia, there is no faster way to go there except by car. In that month of July, the weather was above the 40 degree mark every days. Plasencia is really two towns, the new Plasencia with more or less recent buildings, construction dating after 1900s and the old Plasencia. The tourist area is of course, in the old town, business wise the taxi drivers know when the Madrid train arrive and they are there waiting clients from that train. I took a taxi to my hotel situated in the center of the old town.
